INTRODUCTION


The Department of Microbiology is responsible for teaching various sub-disciplines of Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology and Virology) and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine and other Faculties of the Health Sciences Centre, Kuwait University, Kuwait at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, the staff of the department is responsible for community services by providing state-of-the-art diagnostic, training and consultation services to appropriate institutions/hospitals all over Kuwait for the control and management of infectious and immunological diseases. Furthermore, the staff is engaged in cutting-edge research towards the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the infectious/immunological diseases, and develop and apply state-of-the-art techniques in the diagnosis of these diseases.
