Almandine

A silicate containing iron and aluminum, almandine has the composition Fe3Al2(SiO4)3. This sample of almandine, displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, originated in Southbury, Connecticut. The sample is 2-3cm across.

The sample below left is about 3x6 cm and is from Cross Hill, Nuevo, California. The center sample below is about 4x4 cm and is from Laos. The right sample below is about 2x3 cm and is from Gore Mountain, Warren County, New York.
