The Abstract

Each student is required to submit an abstract about their research that will be displayed in the official Student Research Day website and the abstract book.

• The abstract should be less than 350 words.
• The abstract must include the title,student’s & supervisor’s name and Department.
• Upload Text (txt) document of the abstract which should include the following:
  • Introduction/Background
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion and Conclusion
  • 3-5 keywords
• Use the format given to Upload your abstract.
• Click here to download the abstract format, fill the document then upload it during the process of the online submission.
• Students should check his/her abstract with the supervisor in regards to scientific and editing aspects.
• Abstracts submitted in the word document should be exactly the same as the online submission.
• Abbreviations should be explained the first time they appear in the abstract.

• Header (Title, author name(s), department)
• Background
• Purpose
• Methodology
  • Participants
  • Instruments
  • Design
  • Procedure
• Results
  • Preferably as graphs and/or tables
• Discussion and Conclusion
• References

Poster Presentation (Layout) Criteria:

Posters presented without following criteria will not be evaluated for an award

• Poster board size will be 115cm in width by 135 cm in height. Recommended Poster Size will be 100 cm width and 120 cm height.
• Use at least a 24-point font so the poster can be easily read from 1-2 meters.
• Do not use contrasting vibrant colors. Dark words on light background are easier to read.
• Use no more than three colors preferably black, navy blue, and brown.
• Have enough white space. Too much text without some breaks for pictures, tables, or graphs makes for a very boring and tedious poster.
• Use easy to read fonts such as Arial, Tahoma or Comic Sans Relief.
• Have handouts available with your name and department.
• Use lower case letters.
• Be sure to pick out key terms and critical points. Do not make your poster looking like an article.
