Barite

Barite is BaSO4. This Barium containing mineral is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The sample is about 20 cm across.

Both of these samples of barite are from Cumbria, England. The sample at left is about 12 cm high, and the yellow variety shows the tip of a crystal which was about 5-7cm long.

This sample of barite is from Tsumeb, Namibia. The sample size is about 6x6 cm.
