TEACHING ACTIVITIES:

The Department aims to educate pharmacy students in pharmaceutical chemistry and related sciences; and to train students to be proficient in applying this knowledge in:

• understanding of the chemistry of drugs and drug-drug interactions.
• understanding the molecular basis of cellular function and therapy.
• drug analysis and drug quality control.
• pursuing postgraduate studies in various areas of pharmaceutical sciences.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:

The Department aims to conduct research in the areas of pharmaceutical / medical sciences and biopharmaceutical analyses to enable:

• development of analytical techniques for the analyses of drugs and biomolecules in biological systems.
• discovery and development of new medicinal compounds from synthetic and natural sources.
• identification and development of novel biological markers for assessment of neoplasia.
• encouragement of postgraduate research activities.

COMMUNITY SERVICES:

The Department aims to offer facilities useful in instrumental analyses to:

• provide services of drug analysis for quality control laboratories in drug registration / Ministry of Health (MOH) and pharmaceutical industry in Kuwait.
• perform service of screening for metabolic diseases in neonates and sick infants.
• provide service of drug analysis for screening of drugs of abuse for crime-lab, Ministry of Interior.
• perform service of detection of adulteration in herbal products.
• provide analytical services to researchers.
• provide training and continuing education programmes to pharmacists on various pharmaceutical topics.
